Yes, SD works also.

We used multiple cameras and formats (from DV to HDV, P2, and HDCAM) in our film, and we converted everything to Cineform HD. Then color corrected in Premiere for a consistent look. All effects were also rendered to Cineform from After Effects. We also shot SD but we upconverted using a different technique, better than HDLink.
The only time we rendered uncompressed was to transfer to digibeta for a festival projection (coming up in september) and that was because the transfer house didn't use Cineform.
Cineform is perfect (and small). You can't go wrong with it.
