Thus far, what is your opinion about this camera?

I love the camera - but the software that came with it is terrible.

Im waiting to get my hands on Aspect HD and Premiere Pro - until then, I cant do much with it.

As for playback, the footage looks best on a glass tube HD, projection and plasma screens show too many of the little digital blocks.

I just wish I could edit; camera sits in the case...Did we jump too soon?

Can't make money if we can't edit (unless those of you out there are actually making cashola).

you can edit easily....after conversion...it comes down to how much you are willing to give i suppose. the lattitude of the camera isn't amazing and the noise from compression on color isn't great but the noise can be delt with in post and as long as you are aware of the look you want less lattitude can actually make lighting easier (at least for me). i definately dont think this camera is for everyone, im not really sure who its for tho. its not for amatuers and i dont know why pros would want something that doesnt offer enough control. so its for the people who cant afford proffesional equipment but want to be in the same league...my 2 cents.

I agree with Rob. I'm pretty happy with this camera thus far, but I need to buy more editing software (new Premiere w/ HD plugin)

The conversion works nicely, but I cannot figure out how slow-mo the footage, nor do I have any filters available (color pass, film look, etc.)

Again, I think once premierepro is out, things will look better...

I hear FCP 4 would be good soon for HDV (with plug-ins, of course). Then again, I keep hearing stuff about how badly FCP 4 is; is it as bad as FCP 2 was? That was a nightmare and FCP 3 came out soon after!

What do you mean? I've never heard anyone use "buddy" like that before, but from the context I think I understand what you're implying. However, could you elaborate, I haven't been keeping up to date with FCP 4.

I can tell you right now that
FINAL CUT PRO 4
is the best version yet.

Period. Hands down.

I do not know where to begin- it's just better, easier and
packed with features (and other useful software)

The titling is insane, and the 24p accommodation is of course essential.

Overall, perfect- what I always hoped FCP would evolve into.

Not to say there isn't room for improvement for 5,
but this is one of those programs that you could use for years and years
without HAVING to upgrade, so complete it is.

But hey, that's just my opinion.

Look, I'm going on what my friend is saying, but maybe his computer is having problems, I don't know. I'm getting kind of sick of updating my OS and FCP versions every year. It's getting too expensive. Maybe every other year I'll do this.
