Jeff Koenig August 15th, 2008, 06:06 AM After having the fun of seeing everyone elses setup I had to share my own. Currently living in a apartment so space is limited. Come first of the year that won't be a problem and looking at building a new desk for the equipment.

Pictured we have my Mac Pro quad core,
30' monitor,
mbox mini,
M-audio speaker,
Macbook Pro,
and
Self built Win XP laptop,
Best part of your setup?
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Mmmm, yummy.
David Beisner August 19th, 2008, 09:33 AM This is my suite at work. Optimized for HDV editing with the XHA1.
Running Intel Quad core at 2.4GHz, 4 GB of Ram, and Adobe's Masterworks CS3 collection.
What I do at work is primarily video with Premiere/After Effects/Encore, photography/graphics design with Photoshop/Fireworks, and Web production with Dreamweaver/Flash.
My home office is set up for audio production with ProTools and a 24 track HDD recording system based around the Alesis HD24. I'll probably post pics of that one eventually...
What you see in this picture is my editing computer with two 22" HD screens by ASUS, my "other" computer which is a cheap thing that is used primarily for web browsing/e-mail/Microsoft Office stuff (actually, if you look closely, you'll see that I've got DVinfo.net loaded on that computer...) Also in screen is an old Sony VX2000 which I'm using as a deck to transfer some SD footage for editing.
The picture was taken with my XHA1's photo option onto the card. No post/color done on the picture at all.

John S. Cooper July 23rd, 2009, 12:56 PM really nice pics chris!
Steven Davis July 23rd, 2009, 01:01 PM I feel like I'm the only one with a messy desk..............sigh.
Lorinda Norton July 23rd, 2009, 04:34 PM Steven,
I went in my son's room (my editing room now) to snap a picture to show you that you're not alone, but to my surprise it's much cleaner than usual. I don't know how that happened.
Steven Davis July 23rd, 2009, 04:57 PM Well I see you have a sticky on your monitor, so I feel much better. :}
Glen Elliott July 30th, 2009, 09:43 AM All these pics of spotless studios! I'll be honest mine cycles between this and this...

Jonathan Palfrey August 1st, 2009, 11:31 AM How big are your computer monitors! They look huge.
My editing area goes in cycles too, currently its in a slightly messy state.
Glen Elliott August 2nd, 2009, 03:07 PM 46" on my main workstation and 42" on my secondary workstation.
Bryan Gilchrist August 4th, 2009, 07:29 PM 46" on my main workstation and 42" on my secondary workstation.
Overkill, no?
Chris Leffler August 5th, 2009, 09:24 PM I can't get over how much I love your setup Glen!! I would love to have just one of those workstations in your studio. haha

I've thought of putting my lcd up that high, but I use it for editing as my computer monitor. Nice set up dude.

Mine just stays messy, 40 hours plus in this seat it's futile to clean.
Grinner Hester October 2nd, 2009, 04:02 AM I've thought of putting my lcd up that high, but I use it for editing as my computer monitor. Nice set up dude.
That's just the client monitor. I use the NTSC monitor. I'd love to sell that boat anchor and get another lil LCD but nobody wants the dang thing. lol
Shaun Roemich October 2nd, 2009, 06:56 AM Grinner: nice "cave". Where did you get the desk? I'm going to be in the market soon and I like yours.
Grinner Hester October 3rd, 2009, 03:27 PM A client's husband made it for me for 1500 bucks. Awesome deal.
Shaun Roemich October 3rd, 2009, 04:00 PM Grinner: I was "afraid" of that... Figured I'd have to spring for a custom jobbie. Thanks for responding. $1500 IS a steal. Now I just need to find a carpenter/woodsmith with too much money, too much time on his hands and a heart of gold...
Grinner Hester October 13th, 2009, 11:41 AM It was a steal but was quite the buddy deal. Lord knows I cut her many breaks over the years. lol
There are not many consoles out there today big enough or high enough for what we do, if ya think about it. Even the $3k and above consoles are kind of like "eeeh, man I guess that would do." Don't settle. You'll be sitting there more than half of your waking hours. Grab a saw if you must. I can tell you, if you allow carple tunnel to set in, it can greatly affect your career. There are a few ways to get rid of it but only one way to avoid it... proper ergonomics.
Kevin Myhre January 2nd, 2010, 09:20 PM Okay looking at everyone's editing areas I'm very jealous of a lot of them but I've decided to post what I'm working with. This is my editing area.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a87/sreamingskull/IMG_4600.jpg
right now I do all my editing off my laptop until I can come up with the money for a mac pro. Then I'll be building a custom desk to hold everything.
This is my screening room: it's not done yet needs new furniture and there will be bookshelves and cabinets framing everything but I have to wait until it's a little warmer to get out in the garage to build all that (-12 today is just a little too cold)

Steven Davis January 2nd, 2010, 10:38 PM I knew I was missing something. A Gargoyle!!!
Kevin Myhre January 2nd, 2010, 11:01 PM yeah I got that as a gift a few years ago. I think he looks pretty cool up there. The other side of my office is full of my Special Effects stuff so there's skeletons, zombies, and everything else. Sometime soon I'll have to figure out where to go with all that so I can add some more equipment in here and not be competing for space.
Robert Turchick January 2nd, 2010, 11:28 PM Here's mine...my wife calls it "the man cave"
Not in the picture is the table with all my production gear (lights, camera, audio, etc.) my iso booth is barely visible on the right.
I am a musician/composer as well as an audio engineer/producer. Video has been in my bag of tricks for about 6 years now.
Kevin Myhre January 2nd, 2010, 11:33 PM looks nice and well organized. I'm still trying to get everything I have organized now that I have my office back after finishing our basement.. (it became the room to store everything in)
Bryan Daugherty January 5th, 2010, 07:07 PM Robert,
Nice set-up! I have the earlier model of that very same desk. (Instead of the tower shelf in the middle it has cabinet on rt side and file drawer on left.) I am moving everything around right now but I will try and most some pics later this month...
Robert Turchick January 5th, 2010, 07:35 PM I had your desk at two previous companies and was psyched to get one for my setup...they discontinued it and sent me this one instead....not nearly as nice! Arrrrgh!
John Galeano January 11th, 2010, 04:45 PM Here's mine 40'' Samsung LED and 23'' HP LCD monitor.
Steven Davis January 11th, 2010, 05:27 PM Here's mine 40'' Samsung LED and 23'' HP LCD monitor.
Hey John, you should run a beach seen on the big one, free tanning eh?
John Galeano January 11th, 2010, 05:42 PM Haha good idea.. Now I'll just charge my girl everytime she sits on my chair.
Wade Spencer January 11th, 2010, 07:13 PM Robert,

Heh. I have the same one you are describing now. Going to ditch it soon for a Raxxess Configuraxx like I had at my old job. I loved the rackspace that thing had.
Shaughan Flynn January 12th, 2010, 09:13 PM Here's mine...my wife calls it "the man cave"

Nice looking gold strat there! MIJ version or MIA?
I have a mid 90's MIJ - My living room here:
http://www.b-scenefilms.com/lrpic.jpg
Robert Turchick January 12th, 2010, 11:29 PM Wow..you're ready to rock!
Actually my strat is a Fernandes! It's a Japanese one which is actually the nicest of the brand other than the custom line. Got it when I worked a guitar shop for 10% above cost which really annoyed the owner as the next week the price doubled...almost to the American Fender prices. The other cool part was we were getting these guitars in cases of five at a time. My job was to do the setup and therefore, this was the pick of the litter out of dozens and IMHO plays as nice or nicer than many custom strats.
Bryan Daugherty March 27th, 2010, 12:00 AM I finally got my furniture moved around where I want and thought I would take a pic to share but with an L-shaped desk easier said than done. So here is a first attempt using photo stitching so there are some rough points but you get the idea...
Chris Estrella March 30th, 2010, 12:38 PM Nice setup, Bryan! And thanks for keeping this thread alive; I really like seeing other peoples' workstations.
One question: Why do you have two preview monitors? I see one on the left (looks like a computer monitor) and further off the roof (looks like a TV).
Bryan Daugherty March 30th, 2010, 01:21 PM Thanks Chris! In answer to your question, I have the 22.5 inch 1080p monitor on my desk that I use for editing preview. The HDTV in the distance, I use for rendered previews, client previews, and watching netflix online or blurays. The photo makes it a little hard to get perspective so I attached the floorplan for my layout. As you can see there is a couch in between the desk and the TV and the video card I use has video and 5.1 audio out via HDMI. The other reason I use the HDTV is to check playback on an actual set.
Paul R Johnson March 3rd, 2011, 09:49 AM I've taken the pictures, but I didn't tidy up - so what you see is what you get - a functional mess! Blue room is edit suite, red room audio studio. The other room is really for voice overs and recording - but is mainly full of even more junk.
Peter Manojlovic March 3rd, 2011, 09:55 PM Hey Bryan...
Is that a duplicator next to your machine, or is that external storage??
Johnny Riedstra March 7th, 2011, 09:41 PM Hi There Fellow Production Artists,
This thread is really great, It's nice to see how other folks in the trade have their trusty tools custom strewn about their workspace. Some of your setups are marvelous, and since I just stumbled across this thread, I'll take a picture of my completely custom 5600k only lighting workstation where clutter does not exist, holy mackerel, Just looking at some of the workstations makes me scratch my head as to how concentration is achieved, but as they say - to each their own. Just hope those cluttered stations don't inflict a lack of confidence when clients visit.
Robert Turchick March 7th, 2011, 10:23 PM Well, my new space is coming along. Electrician and HVAC guys were installing today.
Still not quite as large as my "ideal" (wife and city code says I can't take up more space on our lot!) BUT over double what I have now and has it's own bathroom! Ceilings arch from 9' to 12'.
Whole space is 15x23...greenscreen is painted 12' wide, 9' tall and 9' floor with cyc wall transition. Overhead lighting grid and acoustic panels/bass traps plus "cloud" acoustic panels above the GS floor and mix/edit position. The desk is almost 3 times the size of my old one and will easily sit two people. For what I've been doing for the last 3 years, this space will be perfect. Can't wait to move is and I will post pics of the progress as soon as I figure out how to get my pics off my iPhone!
Here's a rough rendering.
Phillip Palacios March 23rd, 2011, 08:25 AM I'll add mine. It may change as I may be switching office buildings soon.
Bryan Daugherty March 29th, 2011, 03:33 PM Hey Bryan...
Is that a duplicator next to your machine, or is that external storage??
So I was visiting this old thread and noticed I missed a question. Yes that is a duplicator. It uses an Acard controller and a USB conector that allows me to transfer iso files from my system to it's internal HDD.
Robert Turchick April 21st, 2011, 06:51 PM Ok folks! Here's the first pic of the completed studio. It's just an iPhone pic as I've been too lazy to bring out my 7D. (I promise to take good pics later!)
Highlights include a 12'x9'x9 painted green screen with cyc wall, overhead lighting grid with fluorescent fixtures (and 1 LED for backlight) teleprompter, pro tools, FCS, Adobe cs5, 32" Sony LED TV, lots of music gear, full bathroom with shower, and of course the beverage cooler with Guiness!
Best part is the commute is about 20 feet from my bedroom! Already done one shoot (emergency) before the room was complete...first official shoot is Monday! First new client meeting is tomorrow!
Robert Turchick April 27th, 2011, 10:33 AM Here's a few more pics from the first official shoot! Studio works great! Clients loved it and since the lights generated next to no heat, the talent was comfy, happy and required very few makeup fixes!
Andy Wilkinson April 27th, 2011, 11:09 AM I like the cans of Guinness etc. in the beer fridge...I think I'll "upgrade" my studio to incorporate a similar feature ;-)
Also, what size light is that big soft box? All in all looks very impressive!
Robert Turchick April 27th, 2011, 08:26 PM It's a 32" with CFL's for an 1800 watt tungsten equivalent. I have it diffused WAY down plus a minus green filter. If it wasn't so big, it would be perfect! (but then it wouldn't work as well as it does!)
And thanks! took a LOT of planning to get the setup right and it does work flawlessly! (Guiness helped!)
Oh, just saw where you're from and that I may be breaking a rule of drinking Guiness....I like mine very cold. ;)
Plus the actress is from London and said it was OK! HaHa!
D.R. Gates October 17th, 2011, 03:34 AM $200 desk from Guitar center. Installed my own heavy duty casters, as the ones that came with the desk were a joke.
http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m216/dgates01/Desk1.jpg
Bryan Daugherty October 18th, 2011, 05:02 PM Nice setup Robert. It is great to see the fruits of that much planning and labor.
I will have new pics of the new office soon as I am in the middle of moving. On that note, if anyone (not too far from Lexington, KY) is interested in my old desk for free (seen here: http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/home-away-home/13127-post-pics-your-setup-23.html#post1506064) let me know, otherwise it is going to the Habitat for Humanity Restore. It is a great desk but I now have 3 to choose from and the others work better for my workspace.
Kyle Root December 11th, 2011, 04:53 PM My minimalist upstairs home office setup. I'm still redoing some things, the opposite side of the desk is going to have a sofa and TV area soon.
The desk and furniture is from Staples, Edgewater collection.
Shannon Rice July 9th, 2013, 05:31 PM Here is my setup. its very basic at the moment, as I've only been doing video for 6-8 months so far, but there will be plenty more to come!
