Hello. I have a macbook pro with Final Cut Studios and I just tried to transfer footage from my xl-h1a to my final cut and I am having some problems with it being able to read my camera. Any Suggestions on how to fix this problem? Please help. New to Final Cut and this camera that I bought about 3 weeks ago

The probably belongs in the editing for mac thread but here are some things to check.

Usually when this happens like this it's because FCP and the camera are not playing well together.
Make sure that you're sending HDV out through firewire not a DV downconvert Make sure that you have the settings for FCP correct, you should use easy setup HDY 1080 24 (or whatever you shot in)

If you've done all of that and are still having issues explain more in depth about what is happening.

Finally got it to work. changed around in FCP, and poof it worked. Thanks, although I shot in 1080i and some scenes are looking kinda grainy for High Def. Is that natural? Any guesses as to what might have gone wrong? Thankfully this is only test footage so it's good to nip these rookie errors in the butt now before doing a shoot for someone. Wouldn't want to embarrass myself.

Auto Gain = Grainy/Noisey Footage.

Keep the camera in manual and at -3 gain and you will never see it again.

Yeah, unfortunately, the H1 is not the great right out of the box. You really gotta get into the custom presets and start tweaking. Cine Gamma. Noise reduction.

There are some really sweet presets you can download off this site. Also try Disjecta's (Stephen Dempsey) Panalook preset. Emulates the look of a DVX (a little bluer, a little more saturated) very nicely. I use this one a lot for general shooting. I create my own custom presets for narrative work.
