So we all see your work, now show us where it is you work.

I'll start:

I am currently working on it, still cleaning, organizing, and such but figured i'd take a picture and show you the progress.

MobileMe Gallery (http://gallery.me.com/lmaddalena#100093/IMG_2816&bgcolor=black)

The computer is a mac pro 8x 3.0ghz 12GB ram there are 4 TB of hd's internal and 3 external. battery back ups, and a deck. There is also a macbook and a macbook pro on the left. Some cameras floating around, they are the ones I use often enough that I don't keep them away because i'll want to grab one quick and run and shoot.

Cool setup Louis - and great idea for a thread.

Here's a few pics from my studio:

Pic #1 - Couches and viewing area
Pic #2 - My very messy desk(s) - my excuse is that I've been out of town for a few days
Pic #3 - The outside of our building - my office is upstairs on the 1st floor
Pic #4 - Studio space - we share the building with 2 photographers. I don't use this area much
Pic #5 - Different angle of the couches and viewing area
Pic #6 - A couple of pics stitched together
Pic #7 & 8 - Before and After shots from when we did the renovations

Here's a short timelapse from the renovations - Ebenezer Films Blog Archive New Premises - Timelapse (http://ebenezerfilms.com/blog/?p=36)

We're pretty lucky to have such a great space - our studio is located in a funky alley way right in the middle of town. I'd love to separate the areas for client viewings and where I work but people are pretty understanding - and it helps to sometimes show clients the equipment used in producing their videos.

Cheers! Can't wait to see more of other people's spaces.

Matthew.

Wow beautiful. Mine is still in my bedroom. It used to have its own room but we're doing contstruction so I had to move into my studio.. In any event I would love to have a studio not in my house like you, but I don't make nearly enough money.

Give it time. I worked out of home in tiny bedrooms for the first two years - we've only been in our current space for just on a year now.

not much to look at really, although I'm planning a small reno shortly, just repainting to be rid of the yellow walls.
Matt, love your space, I may pop up to Toowoomba in the next couple of months, so if you're in town I might pop in, would love to talk shop. This room was a bedroom when we bought, but we needed an office, so at the expense of the guest bedroom there you have it, I converted the walk in robe to a soundbooth, as I occasionally do voiceovers as well.

I have to agree with Louis, can't wait to have a detached office, although it's likely I would still work from home just need to find a place with a detached shed or building.

Cheers
Darren

Looks good Darren ... brings back some fond memories of my old room and setup. Definitely let me know if you make it to Toowoomba, it'd be great to catch up.

I like the setup. I find that in order to have a nice studio you need to have a solid desk. It looks like I will have to buy one next time I have some extra cash flow. Everybody's desks are so nice when you can't see the wires under them.

The future office/studio.... behold.

Couldn't resist posting since we are in the building stage, but I will be sure to repost when its done. They say by November we should be able to move in to our new home, and my home office/studio is one of my first projects to finish.

Here is my office that is already becoming too small, but it's where I meet all of my clients. We just work out of our home and most of the work (video) is done right here. We have some backdrops and studio lighting setup in the basement for photo but don't use it much as everything is usually shot on location.

Very Nice! What are all the certificates for?

Those are a mix of award certificates and associations that we belong to. There are also the two college diplomas on the other wall. My wife and I both studied the overall field that we're in so I have those displayed also.

Yeah Louis, dont give up! It was a great thread! I am sure Pete would have publish his work space, except I wont let him because our "office" is just a nice way of decribing a room with the spare bed, extra furniture, craft supplies and endless crap. Its WAY too messy for public viewing!

I like seeing other peoples, makes me want to clean up... kinda!

how do you post pictures on this site?

just throw a picture up on a website, blog, photo sharing site, etc, and post a link. I went with mobile me, but you can use any site that allows you to put a picture up... There is also the option of adding a photo directly to your post like Matt did.

Thanks for the feedback Matthew and Louise. After years in a sterile edit suite, I wanted to design I workspace I wanted to be in. I had a cabinet maker friend who is also a wedding DJ build and install the work areas. To save on cost I designed the units as built ins, even though everything has the appearance of standalone furniture. Everything is basically work surfaces tied to the wall. The cabinets are built to 19" standard studio size with rack rails for mounting gear. It's kind of like a kitchen design. The surfaces are a black swirl Formica(hides messes and cleans easily) with solid cherry bullnose trim and 1/2" cherry plywood sides. The cabinets are 1/2" cherry plywood with solid cherry fronts. Total cost was a very reasonable $1700.

This space is also a 16 track recording studio, thus the plethora of audio gear and instruments. Everything is linked to a Octocore Mac Pro. The Audio Workstation is a Tascam SX-1 which will take black burst sync from the Mac Pro for doing soundtrack work although I haven't used this feature.

I am truly blessed to have a work environment like this. Every morning when I step from the kitchen to the studio I can't believe how fortunate I am to have this space.

Hi Louis,

So we all see your work, now show us where it is you work.

I work entirely on laptops, so my office is anywhere. I just can't sit at a desk all week. With my wife at home all day with the kids I need to get out of the house if I want to concentrate. At home I stand quite often with an elevated desk, sit with feet up, lay on my back, lay on my stomach, even used the treadmill with an elevated waist-high shelf that allows me to walk at 3 mph and edit. I use all portable bus-powered drives to stay mobile. This picture is a little dated in that I switched to FW800 and eSATA rather than FW400 when I started editing HD.

EventVideographer.com ~ Mobile Editing (http://www.eventvideographer.com/mobile_editing)

I'm very much looking forward to quad-core MacBook Pros. I'll be first in line. I have a base camp in my office with two intel iMacs that I use for capturing and encoding, but my laptop is my real workhorse.

Primarily as a dedicated capture machine. I also have XP installed, recently, via BootCamp to interface with some hardware that is PC-only.

Do you use the smaller monitor for grading and viewing or do you use the huge monitor for everything

How do you work

Hey Glen. Nice setup. How do you find editing on that giant screen?

I love it! I had two 30" displays (one Apple and one DELL) and ditched them both when I went with my first 46" LCD (Westinghouse). I found the native resolution of the 30" displays to be a bit extreme (2560x1600) and difficult to see- especially all the dials and sliders in FCP. Since then I've upgraded to all Samsung large 1080p LCDs.

I have another workstation on the other side of the room identical to this one. Once you work on larger monitors you can't go back. The best part is they are less expensive than the Apple 30-inchers.

Hey Glen

What sizes are both Monitors and are they plasmas

Do you use the smaller monitor for grading and viewing or do you use the huge monitor for everything

How do you work

The primary display is 46" and the secondary is 32". Both 1080p. I use the primary one for working and the smaller one to the right for grading. I find that particular Samsung model to be apt. due to it's built-in blue-only feature. A first for a consumer television, at least as far as I've found. That coupled with Samsung's amazing control they give the end-user over the image quality (attributes usually buried in cryptic service menus on other sets) makes calibrating quite an easy task.

I have the one HDMI fed by my Black Magic Intensity Card (non-pro) from my Mac Pro and the other HDMI input fed by my Mac Mini. On the other side of the room I have a similar set up with another Mac pro but a Macbookpro as a secondary machine.

The setup is very basic and works well for me- it just looks a bit different because of the large wall mounted displays. The only thing "exotic" and/or priced above a typical set-up are the desks I chose. Biomorph Level 3 desks with individual crank-adjusting platform heights- I can't recommend them enough! Anytime I feel like standing and editing (to give the legs some blood..lol) I can hand crank the platform closest to me to standing height. It's got a bicycle-chain'like mechanism inside and is very smooth to crank operate. The rear platform does the same but is nestled flush under the display so there is no need to adjust height.

Finally, if you are looking to go the large display route stay away from Plasma. The technology isn't conducive to static imagery like computers & NLEs produce. However if you were to ask me which technology produces better TV/Movie viewing- it's Plasma, hands down. :) LCDs for computers and Plasma (and projection) for everything else.

Yep. Logging tapes right now from the day's weddings. This is my studio space right now. Please note the HV20 deck, 1TB of firewire disk space, borrowed wireless equipment, proudly displayed company branded hat, and box of cheez-its. Sometimes it's hard to edit when the monitor is bigger than a wall in your room, but the product always seems to come out right, so I guess that's what matters. :)
