will ex3 firware support new PHU-60K or it must be send back to sony for upgrade?
View Full Version : ex3 firmware and PHU-60K Marius Boruch September 2nd, 2008, 08:07 PM will ex3 firware support new PHU-60K or it must be send back to sony for upgrade? David C. Williams September 2nd, 2008, 08:19 PM Support is there out of the box apparently. I have not tested it though. Supports 32gb SxS too. Mike Chandler September 3rd, 2008, 07:03 AM Apparently not. Sony now says that the Ex3's with less than firmware 1.1 will not work with the drive. Supposedly, those are units shipped before 8/15, but owners with later ship/build dates are finding they have the wrong firmware (1.0x) Mike Chandler September 3rd, 2008, 07:08 AM Should have been: v1.11 Markus Bo September 3rd, 2008, 09:23 AM I just picked up my EX3 yesterday and the PHU-60 works fine. Markus Barry J. Anwender September 3rd, 2008, 12:09 PM I just picked up my EX3 yesterday and the PHU-60 works fine. Markus All well and good, but please have some consideration by also letting us know what version of firmware came with your EX3. That would be consideration for the folks who purchased units with the 1.0x firmware. Cheers! Markus Bo September 3rd, 2008, 12:53 PM Ok, ok, you're right: V1.02_0078 Markus Mike Chandler September 3rd, 2008, 01:00 PM And that is the latest firmware for the EX3. Please ignore my earlier post; it was based on an incorrect reading of an email from Sony at another forum. Guys were having problems with their PHU drive units operating on their EX3's and believed it was caused by having 1.02 firmware. It's not. I called Sony Service Center in San Jose, and they said that 1.02_0078 is the latest firmware for the EX3, so whatever problems they were having with the drive, they are not firmware-related. Ted OMalley September 3rd, 2008, 05:49 PM Where is the firmware version found?? Mike Chandler September 3rd, 2008, 06:26 PM Ted, you press the select, cancel, and menu buttons all at once--but not the ones on the handle (they won't work),the ones next to the menu button. New menu items will appear at the bottom and you scroll to IF. It's in there. Ted OMalley September 3rd, 2008, 07:51 PM Mike, Thanks. I love "secret" menus! Marius Boruch September 3rd, 2008, 10:23 PM so what is the chance to buy ex3 with old firmware??? or is the V1.02_0078 new and only one on Abelcine web site it says: "At this time, the PHU-60K is compatible with the Sony EX3 only" so I guess it answers my question. - is ther any way to find about particular camera firmware before it shipped from retailer or is it blind game BTW what is best place to buy the PHU drive? Marten Dalfors September 4th, 2008, 12:26 AM I was worried to read about different firmwares in the ex3 already. I bought mine early. It has a serlial of less than 200 and has firmware V1.02_0078. Is there really a different firmware for the ex3? Markus Bo September 4th, 2008, 12:28 AM It seems that that firmware is the actual one. And the fact that everything works fine (PHU-60) shows that there is no need for further investigation, or? Markus Matt Sturns September 4th, 2008, 01:13 AM still trying can someone tell me what the firmware issue is? Matt Sturns September 4th, 2008, 05:11 PM some updates...I apparently got 2 bad PHUK-60 hard drives from B&H. I returned these units and of course they are out of stock so I do not know when I will be receiving my replacements. One mystery solved: The firmware numbers for the EX1 and EX3 are different as I was told by Sony and apparently the PHUK-60 should work out of the box...as long as you don't get units that don't work.... |
