I have an MKH-60 that I'll be using outside. Usually the wind is pretty mild, so I don't believe I'll need heavy duty protection. I've read that furry type windprotection can somewhat attenuate the high frequencies, so don't use it unless you need to.

I can only speak for the various Rycote Windgags, but for what it's worth the gag itself, the zeppelin, needs something more on top. I am assuming, BTW, that you have the correct mount that fits inside the Rycote? As the ribs protrude a little above the surface, the zeppelin itself can produce a wind whistling sound. So over it you need either the grey sock which is quite effective and almost impervious to HF attenuation, (now unaccountably not listed on Rycote's site!) or the Windjammer, the long fibre job that is just about the ultimate in wind protection. If you keep the Windjammer well combed and clean its advantages considerably outweigh its slight HF reduction.

The Smoothie isn't all that effective in anything above a gentle gust. Don't think the Ball will fit.
