I have a Canon A1 and a tape that was recorded HDV. I need to record into Premiere and then re-export to another tape SD, so someone else can use the footage. I tried turning on HD Down Convert and then making a new project with 24p (since it was filmed in 24 frames) and recording DV. It looks fine when recorded and played back in premiere. Then when I export to tape it makes the camera's view finder freak out trying to play it, making it jump sizes back and forth, enough to make one nauseous. It also won't play the AVI in any video viewing program. So how can I do this to get the footage on a tape as SD. I`m out of ideas and patience, he needs it tomorrow night before I leave for vacation.

Isn't it possible to hook up two cameras to each other by firewire, turn on HDV-DV downconvert, and dub the tape over to another tape?

if he had his camera here then yes, sadly he is 40 minutes away.

You could export as a DV AVI file from Premiere and ship it on a DVD or hard disk? Just a thought. DV format is compressed (up to a point) so it might be practical. It would save a whole capture stage again.

I think Premiere won't support print back to tape in 24p. So you will have to start a DV-AVI 29.97 timeline. Load the 24F clip to the timeline. With Frame blending, you can then print back to tape. However, a better method is to use AE to insert 3:2 pulldown before printing back to tape.
