Hi forum,

I own a canon XHA1 which I'll be using together with a DVX100b to shoot a documentary by the end of the month. Knowing that the panasonic is not an HDV camera? how would you shoot to make them look the same? does the DVX100b shoot progressive? 16:9?
Could I shoot HDV with the canon and DV with dvx100 and edit them together?

thanks

((Tweak the A1 to match the cooler tone of the DVX))

does the DVX100b shoot progressive?

((Its a progressive chip.. in fact it shoots progressive BETTER than interlaced.. ))

16:9? ((Not native. Its an electronic in cam crop. Your better off shooting 4:3 and converting to 16:9 in post. This allow you to reframe a shot if need be.))

Could I shoot HDV with the canon and DV with dvx100 and edit them together?
((Yes ))

Guillermo,

The XHA1 can be loaded with custom presets on sd memory card - view the custom preset library on the XHA1 page. Presets are available to match the DVX and XHA1.

The DVX can shoot - Progressive - 2 modes - Scan the DVX Threads and read the manual.

You will need a wide angle lens/adaptor for 16.9 on the DVX. I may be wrong on this issue but the 16.9 delivered by the DVX is a "generic" 16.9.

Your Editing software will determine to what degree of sucsess you will be able to ingest edit and downconvert the HDV footage and mix with SD footage.
You can also capture the in-camera downconverted signal from the XHA1 in order to simplify your workflow.

I am not familiar with the DVX and could be wrong on the 16.9 issue.

Hi,

sorry for the delay answering, thanks for your info.

So, if the DVX doesn't film 'real 16:9', that means that it films 4:3 with two bars on top and bottom. How could I match the real 16:9 of the XHA1? I mean there will always be a 'wide' difference between both images! won't it?

thanks!

I've reading quite a lot about shooting 16:9 on the DVx, letterbox, squeeze, etc and i'm still confused....I'm gonna be filming HD on the XHA1 which I can downconvert later on but which 16:9 mode do I use for the DVX? maybe 4:3 and placing bars on Vegas?
I'm also using the DVX100 preset for the canon which looks really good on camera and the 25f(progressive) mode.
