I just purchased a FS-C and find it a very useful tool. Being able to instantly playback the last take (or other various takes) is really helpful for the director...even if you're the director. Also, being able to transfer footage directly to my editing app is so much faster than capturing real time!
One thing I'd like to be able to do is capture HD (HDV) on tape and at the same time capture to the FS-C in SD.
Many of my clients want SD to use for the web or for DVD distribution. But what if I could create an HD archive so that future projects could use this footage? ......once the world catches up to HD.

I have a FSC Firestore and XH A1, but I am only able to transfer to FCE in
realtime. Could be that I do not know how to properly transfer clips. For
instance if I drag clips from the FSC to my Mac Pro desktop then drag them
to FCE they will not open. Hope I am doing something wrong. Help would
be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I use Edius Broadcast. I simply go to the DD function in the HDD screen in the FS-C then..."Enable" the computer link and then cut and paste the footage to a folder. There it can be used by Edius's file input function. Files are instantly available to the timeline. Or, you can miss the step of coping the files to a hard drive and use the FS-C as you media drive (I personally copy the files to my media hard drive).
This is really the advantage of the FS-C. If you must load the file from the FS-C in real time to your app then something is wrong. It sounds like a setting to me.

By the way this may seem obvious but do you have the FS-C set to "Quicktime" mode? That would be neccessary for Final Cut.

Since I could not figure out how to capture other than realtime I have
gotten used to the method. I am just a "for fun" shooter. Seems that
I tried capturing with quicktime, but I think that I had the same result.
Meaning that I could not drag the clips to FCE. I did downloaded a trial
program on my PC that enabled me to drag the m2t clips to the program.
So for months now I just capture in m2t. Thanks.
