Hi everybody.
I just finnished this 30 minutes eventvideo from a hardhouse party in Oslo, Norway the 30. april 2008.

The Lineup included alot of Djs, and if youre into it. Take a look.
The video was filmed on two Canon XH-A1 cameras and we used a Sennheiser MKH-416 and a rycote zeppeliner for the interviews.
I edited everything in Premiere, and After Effects. The music is a live recording from a radio channel that broadcasted the whole event.

Youtube has a 10 minutes limit to the clips so i had to chop them up.

Wow, that has to have been extremely hard to film. How did you get audio? Sure wasn't live over the air audio, so did you have a separate feed? I'm sure there were focus problems all over too, especially with the dark conditions and strobes.

I'd say your video was a success, because I'm wishing that I could book a flight to Norway right now!

The audio was captured seperately with live feed from the mixer. I made sure i got the source mp3 files with me on an usb stick when i left the event. :)

The focus problems are quite a hassle. Both me and my other cameraman use manual focus when filming crowds and the dancefloor because the autofocus gets all tangled up in the disco lights.

We also use manual shutter and ride the apperture manually as well as the zoom and focus.

I'd say your video was a success, because I'm wishing that I could book a flight to Norway right now!

I just nailed a contract down here for quite a few raves, so I know how difficult it can be to not only shoot, but to edit this kinda thing.

I probably used about 90 hours in post.

Preset freaks..
actually there is no preset.
Its all on manual control.

My best tip is to go 25/1 (in PAL) on shutter speed, film 25progressive frames pr second, drive your iris wheel down as much as you can and keep gain on -3!

That will give these results as in this video :)

I've got a major question: I'm an amateur and wanting to record live bands, have done a few clips, with a small point-and -shoot camera with video: 640x480 at 30 fps.

Looking at your clip I noticed "squares", pixelation I assume? And comparing that with my clips I can't see them there. Is that because you compressed your clips to put it on youtube or...?

I find it hard to describe, if you don't mind looking at mine to get an idea what I'm talking about?

I want to buy another camera to be able to control the focus a bit better :-) but I'm at a total loss at what to get for my particular situation/plans!

Any tips appreciated, but I'm on a small budget, so will have to take that into account.
