Quick question. I shot some footage on my mates Sony Z1 in HD the other day, I just shot it on normal Mini DV tapes. Today I tried to view it on my DVX 100 and nothing is coming up, I then tried to capture it on a Sony DSR deck and nothing? Is this normal? Will I need the Z1 to see and capture the footage? Cheers.

If you shot in HDV (HD compressed and recorded to Mini DV tape) and not SD, then you will need a capable deck or camera to play the HDV footage.
SO your DVX100 is an SD camera,a dn as such can't play MiniDV HDV recorded tape. Same would go for your deck.
If you had a HDV deck or even a small consumer HDV camera, then in most instances you can capture from them with little issue. As long as you don't shoot in Cineframe or such format in the Z1.

if you shot it on mini dv tape in HDV mode then you can't use your dvx or a regular deck to watch it. any hdv camera should read the footage.
