Hooray, it looks like Canon just became a bit smarter... they've brought back the RGB filter for both of these single-chip models.

Also, both have larger CCD's. In video mode they're getting 1.2 megapixels on the chip; in still photo mode it's 2.0 megapixels.

The Optura Xi appears to be a revisitation of the classic Canon golden wonder, the Optura Pi, but without progressive scan video. The Optura 300 looks like a glorified Elura, practically the same body style.

Huh? 1/3.4" = .294" (Just a little larger than 1/3.6" - .277") A 1/3" CCD = .33", 1/4" = .25"

My bad -- a serious mistake on my part. What I get for doing this stuff too fast.

That should read: one over three point four... just a bit over one-third of an inch.

just a bit over one-third of an inch

You mean, just a bit under one-third (in size) of an inch. :)

PS: get a load of their viewfinders, just like the one on the Optura 20. :)

It's only 12:42 AM here, the fireworks just ended. Lots of people about. I'm watching Deep Space Nine. :)

Would anyone know the actual resolution and IAR of the video from the XI ?

e.g. 720x576i25 @ 16:9 (i know its NTSC or PAl but its teh horizontal resolution and Image Aspect Ratio i'm wanting clarification on)

I cant seem to find anything in the specificiations that tells me the damn resolution of the camera... tho i could be blind.

How much does 1.2 megapixels affect the image? The Optura Pi has 380,000 pixels.

The specs and chip of the Xi look better than the Pi except for the progressive scan part. (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000507JG/ref=p_de_a_td/002-4035978-2721602?v=glance&s=photo&vi=tech-data)
