Can you use true 16x9 (wide mode??) AND 30p (frame mode??) at the same time on this camera??? i'm confused. Or is it one or the other??

If you CAN do both at the same time, I'm ordering one from pricejapan.

I'm no expert but yes it's true, Michael. You can use 16:9 and 30P at the same time (in video mode, not still mode). Ain't that sweet? My MX300 does it to, but with 25P (because it's PAL).

My shots I've put online were shot in wide mode and frame mode, so it works, right?

Does anyone know whether the GS100 gives you true, native, widescreen 16x9? Up until reading about this camera, the only inexpensive DV camera that I knew of that could shoot native 16x9 without losing resolution, (or using an anamorphic adapter,)was the Sony PDX10. I've read the translated specs on the GS100, but I'm still not sure if the camera's chips are capable of providing native 16x9 like the Sony. Anyone know for sure? Anyone try to capture 16x9 footage from the GS100 in an NLE using a widescreen setting? How'd it look? And is the GS100 truly capable of shooting 30fps progressive?

Is 16:9 like film? If it is, I'll have to get me one.

Just like film? Hmmm. Maybe a PAL MX500 in 16:9 and 25P modes. But then you'll need a PAL HD TV to view it like film---well, sort of---and if there is such a thing. Maybe someone else has the answer you are looking for. :)

The shots are in 16:9(wide mode) and frame mode(progressive) and also are in raw DV format, so no quality loss compression(after the DV compression).

One notice which might be useful to the GS100 owners in PAL countries or the one who would like to convert in post from NTSC to PAL. In such case shooting in 30fps might be not good idea.

There are good softwares to convert NTSC to PAL.
and vice versa.

The guy is really pro and he owns and prizes the AG-DVX100 Panasonic camcorder in many respects. GS100 is using some of the frame technology of this low level pro miniDV cam.

I know you can convert NTSC to PAL with almost any NLE software - the question is what happens if the NTSC is in 30p mode and you go to PAL wich is 50?

It's not very clear to me too (just took it forgranted) so that's why I provided the link rather trying to explain it myself. Dig deeper - you might be able to make your conclusions.

NTSC is 30 frames per second, Pal is 25 frames per second.

No software can give u 100% transform, because of resolution difference. The incompatability is the resolution, framwise, it wont make much difference.
