Anyone know if this would capture footage at 1920 instead of 1440?
If so, would it fair better than HDV compression... ie: less artifacts?

My understanding is that for the A1/G1, it is recommended that you use model FS-C. You can use other models but for full functionality, use the FS-C. As far as resolution, it stores the files in .m2t format (for HD) and at the 1440x1080 resolution. According to Canon's specs, only the G1 can output 1920x1080 and then only through the SDI connection. Even the component out is at 1440x1080.
I would love to see the schematics for the A1 to see if there's a way to hack the camera and intercept the signal while its still 1920x1080.

Lol... You know you are a nerd when you begin a sentence with "I would love to see the schematics..."... Ha, Just kidding... I would actually love to see that information as well... I know somebody out there had hacked apart the DVX to be able to capture and uncompressed signal from the imager... Voids the warranty but helps other people aspire to screw up their gear... : )

Guilty. Sometimes I just can't help myself :)
