How do I import clips from Avid Liquid 7.2 to Final Cut Pro 6.0.3. I have tried to just make the clips Quicktime files but FC will not read the files. What am i missing?

I'm not sure what type of files you are dealing with (DV, HDV, Uncompressed???)...but, it would probably be better to export from Liquid as an uncompressed AVI file.

Hi Jim,

They are HDV files some are 1080i from a Z1 and some are 30F from a Canon A1. So I think AVI is all SD correct?

The AVI resolution could be set to 1440 X 1080i...but, the file size would be dramatically larger.

Why not just stay with the HDV2 format?

Export from Liquid as an MPEG-2--- Select HDV2 1080i

Then import to FCP on an HDV2 (1440 x 1080i) timeline.

Thank Jim I will give this a try again and double check my settings to see if it will work this time.

Yea, the Quicktime export should translate. However, you need to set a preset that matches the resolution and interlacing of the HDV2 codec. I normally use one of the BlackMagic codecs for exporting to QT...but, for HDV2 I would probably export w/ the standard MPEG2 HDV2 settings.

And from there, FCP should add the QT wrapper on the files.

Well I finally had time to switch the clips from the PC (Avid Liquid 7.2) to Final Cut Pro 6.0.4.

I saved the files as MPEG 2 1080i then imported into FC as files. Now the weird part is it will only play smooth at HDV 1080P 30 which is fine with me.

Thanks for the help.
