I plan on shooting a wedding with the Z7 tomorrow and the 170 for a second angle. My plan is to shoot 1080 30p on tape and DV edge cropped on CF. During post I will use the CF footage so I can match it with the 170. Later I will use the HDV footage for a highlight video of the wedding. Do you think this will work well or does anyone have a better solution.
Thanks

Hi Jason,
I do the same thing except i use a Z1 and the 170 and it seems to work for SD @ 4.3.
Make sure you white balance both cameras to the same card under the same light as this will save you a lot of work in post.
I you can get a 16.9 lens adaptor for the 170 that would be best as this will give you wide screen from the 170 in SD without resolution loss, maybe you could hire one?

WTF would you want to do that for? see if someone you know has another HDV camera you can borrow. Hell, try and find an A1 and shoot it in 24f.

Ya I'm thinking about selling the 170 and picking up a HV30 for backup. I figure I won't be using the 170 anymore and I still have the 370 if I need 4:3 SD.

I actually have a wide angle for the 170. Maybe I will use it and shoot in letterbox with the 170 to make it look closer to the 7Z. Any ideas on this working or not.

Jason I don't even know what to say. I have recently purchased a z7 and have 170s. I did mix the footage very well a couple of times now, but never with z7 shooting anything other than sd in 4:3. Anything else is going to look horrible.

Best option is to shoot in 4:3. In 16:9 You need an Anamorphic adapter for the PD170.
