Sad to hear about Stan's departure.

He was an artist and a genius. A pretty awesome combination of talents.

I was so bummed out when I heard about this. He still had plenty of time.

The first time I noticed his creature costumes was in the tv movie Gargoyles (1972).
And I thought Pumpkinhead was well directed. For an fx person turned director he did a pretty arty job I thought.

This is a really sad day for me. As an FX artist I have always looked to Stan as one of the reasons why I do what I do today. In some odd in direct way he was a mentor to me by teaching me through his great work. The guy really was one of the best and he will be missed. The FX world just took one massive loss.

Not so long ago, as a college student, I had the opportunity to tour Stan Winston studios and sat in the famous conference room mentioned in all the obituaries, the one with the life-size statues/props of the Terminator, the Alien, the Velociraptor, even the long-armed gorillas from the forgotten Michael Crichton adaptation of Congo. (If memory serves, at the time the latest addition to the family was a Morlock from The Time Machine.) Sitting in that room is not something one can forget.

I got the impression even then that Winston was in the process of getting out of the game and handing over the business to his successors.

Just wanted to pay my respects to one of the great maestro's!!!
