View Full Version : why, when I 'Delete All Clips', does camera want to 'Restore Media'?

Hi,
Can someone tell me why, when I choose to 'Delete All Clips' (from the 'Media'/'Others' menu), does the camera then say (as soon as I switch to Camera mode) that it wants to 'Restore' Media? Why should it, when I've just told it to get rid of the media? (I've had to choose 'Execute' two if not three times, so it really should accept my judgement on this, in my opinion).
The camera then fails in its misguided mission anyway, and admits that it wasn't able to restore all the media.
I guess I don't see why the two of us have to go through this little dance. I should be able to choose 'Delete All Clips' and that's it.
Is there a simpler way to get rid of all my clips, when I want to start fresh?
Thanks, Malcolm

Interestingly, when you delelete all clips using Clip Browser (at least under Windows), no restore is necessary...

That's interesting, Piotr. I'm not having that kind of luck when I do it via ShotPut EXpress or via the camera.
The new Mac version of the Clip Browser, v.2, might solve this problem.
That's promised for some time this month, I think.

It's an Apple thing. OSX writes additional files onto the card. The camera sees these as being errant and wants to get rid of them by doing a restore. Deleting the clips doesn't remove the files that OSX has added.

If i want to delete all clips in camera, i just reformat the card in camera.
If i delete in clip browser then no reformat is needed.
If i delete with windows then a reformat/restore is needed.

As agreed above (see my and Bob's posts) - the only way clear the card (outside the camera) that doesn't require conforming (restoring on camera), seems to be using Delete command in Clip Browser, but only under Windows.

That explains it, Bob. Thanks so much. These things are less annoying if you know why they're happening.
