I am thinking about going quad core for my next computer, which will be for film editing. I have these hesitations:

I hear the jump in performance from duo to quad is not nearly as good as the gain from single core to quad.

I do not know if premiere pro is optimized to use a quad. I hear many programs are not and the extra power is wasted.

I am concerned a quad core runs very hot, and the heat sink will be even more huge than for a duo.

Does anyone have any comments on this?

Quad is a better deal either way, if you have the money go for it. If premiere is not optimized for it, it will be soon. Go ahead and buy a huge heatsink, who cares...i have a 120mm fan on my CPU and I love it!!!

Hope this tidbit of info helps, for detailed info...see the following thread http://dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=95335&page=10
