View Full Version : some hvr-z7 info needed urgently
Slobodan Milivojevic Bobansky June 7th, 2008, 11:40 AM I am planning to buy hvr-z7e this days, and I have some questions:
- What is the radius of lens filter? I need this info to be shure, because I have some stuff from my Fx-1 left (wide lens, Letus pro 35 with adapter for Fx1)...
- What is the resolution of final avi or m2t clip when recording 3s, 6sec and 9 sec of slow motion video?
- What are advantages of DVcam recording, and is there a size difference of clips recorded as DV or as DVCAM on CF card?
- Because od focus, zoom and iris rings can this camcorder be used with pro camera cranes with ring controlers?
- Does this camera have Lanc adapter?
- What type of usable color correction can be done on camera?

I also need some real responds from users....if any of them is here....
John Knight June 8th, 2008, 04:35 AM - What is the radius of lens filter?
You mean diameter? It's 72mm.
- What is the resolution of final avi or m2t clip when recording 3s, 6sec and 9 sec of slow motion video?
It is "reduced", and then upscaled to 1080. My results show 3s comes out at slightly less than SD quality. But very good... would mix with SD footage fine.
- Does this camera have Lanc adapter?
Yes - back - beside battery.
- What type of usable color correction can be done on camera?
White balance and huge options for setting picture profiles.
RTFM mate. :)

72mm outer
- What is the resolution of final avi or m2t clip when recording 3s, 6sec and 9 sec of slow motion video?
not a clue, but is this supposed to be different? the spec for hdv is 1440x1080 - how and why would it be different?
- What are advantages of DVcam recording, and is there a size difference of clips recorded as DV or as DVCAM on CF card?
dvcam has a faster recording rate and minimized dropouts. 63 minutes dv is about 43 minutes for dvcam
- Because od focus, zoom and iris rings can this camcorder be used with pro camera cranes with ring controlers?
yes, if you're referring to follow focus, and others...i've used it with those as well as on a jib of mine via lanc
- Does this camera have Lanc adapter?
yes; multipin on lens and 1/8" on camera back
- What type of usable color correction can be done on camera?[/QUOTE]
preset, custom, and dial by temp.
Slobodan Milivojevic Bobansky June 8th, 2008, 08:17 AM tnx a lot!

I am not sure what the specs are but the longer the clip length the lower the resolution. I think I read that the 3 second clip is a bit lower than SD. This has to do with the buffering of the high speed shooting. Sony does not give the specs on this easy to find.
This feature needs to be used with tape and does not work with the CF card alone.
Francis Chee June 10th, 2008, 04:01 PM Hi so is the slo mo really a gimmick on the HVR Z7 if we are honest with ourselves, say comparing to dedicated high end cameras such as a Phantom V12 ( but comes at a price for a mere 1200 pounds sterling/day to rent not including insurance etc or VAT)

Of course it's a gimmick. It would be fine for the odd special effect scene in SD, but takes some thought into setup etc... rather be shooting real stuff and earning real money.
Slobodan Milivojevic Bobansky June 12th, 2008, 09:43 AM I have it in my hands!!!
It is just just great as I thought!
The supplied lens works great, it has a good servo zoom, manual controls are so easy to operate, progressive 1080 look so great, light sensitivity and the whole picture is so fresh!
I have bought camera with supplied sony 8Gb Compact flash card, it is working without any problems...I just want to say that this camera is so great, and it is a top in HDV/DV production.
I will post U some clips soon.....
