I'm pplanning to buy a second camcorder for family and documentary use in school. I read the good reviews of the SR11 in this thread. However, I also like the manual controls and pro-look of the JVC HD7. So hard to decide. Both cams have it's strengths in different ways. Does anyone experienced using both camcorders? How about the image quality?

Your input will be highly appreciated.

thanks

You can think of the Sony having the same manual functions as the JVC -- BUT you only get to use ONE at a time via a little knob!

Yes -- you can do a few more things via menu on the Sony -- but the wonderful thing about the JVC is that you can do all manual controls WITHOUT using the menu system. (The exception is WB.)

The real advantage of the JVC is the wonderful wide rubber focus ring. The advantage of the Sony is better color on skin. They JVC is a bit too red which I fix when editing.

One last thing -- the JVC's 30Mbps MPEG-2 is offers better quality and faster editing than is 16Mbps AVCHD.
