Hi,

I have been test filming some time with the XL2 and found that I like the image with a lower saturated look.
But one thing that bothers me, is that after every white balance I still got somewhat to far from the actual white,
even though I moved from the oversaturated look.

Have any of you shot in conditions that white needed to be absolutely white? And what were your settings then?

As for the reds, I use the documentary present +2, but does it reflect the white that much that I need to
set the presents to 0 on most settings? Or is it for the post work to achieve?

Edit:The reason for this inquary is that I mostly film just with the standard viewfinder, and often don't get the correct colour info.

If you white balance to an object that you consider your "perfect white," there is no reason I can think of that should cause that to change during the filming of that shot, so long as you don't change the settings, or the lighting after white balancing. Most people use a white balance card, or a sheet of white paper to balance, but you could zoom in on the snow, or a white jacket, if that is what you consider a perfect white for your shot.

Let me emphasize that you cannot white balance, then change the settings, and expect to have the same white balance that you started with.

Keep in mind snow isn't actually white, but as you said "the perfect white for your shot".

You can't use snow to get a "clinical" or perfect white.

I second that!! Absolutely AMAZING short!! Everyone should watch that. I have ADD with webclips and you caught from the very beginning. I just could not stop watching it.

Job well done if you can do that!! I rarely watch web clips all the way through, almost never.

Beautiful Short!! I am gonna look more into the stuff you guys do!
