Hey guys, new to the world of 35mm, and ive got a redrock with three canon fd lenses. My question is why is it that when i turn the aperture ring on any of the three nothing happens to my image? I mean i do most of the lighting stuff with my nd filters and stuff from the actual camera, but i was just curious. Thanks!

There are two kinds of FD-lenses. On the first kind, you only need to pull a lever to make the aperature work. On the second kind, you have to stick a pin or something in between the lever to make it stay in place. In case you wonder what lever it is, it's the one to the right in this picture:

thanks for the speedy reply, so the lever is the thing on the mount sticking out?

in jon's picture, it is the lever on the rear of the lens (mounted on the same plane as the rear element) that is opposite the red dot. I think it is that the older, heavier metal lenses have a lever that clicks and stays in place when you push it, and the newer lenses must have the lever held in place. i bought some canon fd extension tubes on ebay which actually came with a little piece of plastic specifically made for holding that lever into place.

I just used a piece of plastic toothpick on all of my lenses
