It is a great camera for the price, unless you are doing a theatre release type of movie. Easy to use. shoulder mount is great. I added a 2X telephoto lens on it, worked great. Here is some footage from the hd1000

I recommend it.

Is the HD100u your first camcorder? How does it perform in low light?

Jade,
i bought Sony HVR-HD1000 and is very good in low light compared with my 3ccd Xl1s, well, i strongly suggested if you're shooting paid job(s), i believe you will put some Lighting-on for the night event or no-light situation.

I have never regretted my HD1000u purchase, especially the price tag. I shoot in HD and deliver on DVD. I own a PD170 and have shot on these and Canon models XL1, XL2, Gl2, XH-A1 and am looking forward to acquiring a SONY FX1000 or Z5.
