View Full Version : Data Rate Calculator for EX1? Malcolm Hamilton May 10th, 2008, 07:31 AM Hi, just wondering if there's a version of the AJA Data Rate Calculator that works for the EX-1? thanks, Malcolm Devin Termini May 11th, 2008, 12:23 AM Hi Malcom, I haven't seen a calculator for the EX-1. Here are some calculations though. Shooting in HQ - Presuming 35mbps CBR 35Mb/s*60s = 2100Mb/m --multiplies data per second by 60 seconds 2100Mb/m*60 = 126,000mb/h --multiplies data per minute by 60 minutes (126,000Mb/h) / 1024 = (123.0468 Gb/h) -- increases magnitude from megabits to gigabits) (123.0468Gb/h)/8 = 15.38GB --changes from bits to bytes Total disk space cost for 1 hour of EX-1 footage is 15.38 GB. This is presuming that the 35Mbps is CBR. It is not, Sony has mentioned that the HQ setting is VBR, so your mileage may vary. However, the SP setting (1440x1080) does have a CBR of 25Mbps. Malcolm Hamilton May 11th, 2008, 10:17 AM Devin, I do appreciate the help with the math (never my strong subject). One hour = approx. 15 GB. thanks so much, Malcolm |
