View Full Version : music suggestions needed
Dylan Couper July 16th, 2003, 09:12 PM Hey, I'm putting together a promotional video for a golf related product, and I need some music for the intro.
For the life of me, I can figure out what kind of music goes good with golf?!?
Can y'all throw some suggestions at me? Types of music, or better yet, specific bands or songs I can listen to to get a better idea if it's something that's outside of the mainstream music world.
Mike Rehmus July 16th, 2003, 09:46 PM Do a Web crawl through all the music that is offered for review on-line. You can find just about anything you want.
Do some google searches to get started.
Music Bakery, Music2Hues, SmartSound are some of the standards. There must be over 100 of those folks out there. From places you can buy a single song to people who want to lease you a library of music.
Matt Elias July 16th, 2003, 10:01 PM Nothing beats Charriots of Fire, especially to the slow mo action of golf.
Imran Zaidi July 16th, 2003, 10:03 PM The largest demographic in golf is, regardless of Tiger Woods' influence, middle-aged and up white men. I definitely don't fit that demographic but I do enjoy golf. I frequently watch the Golf Channel here in Orlando, which is home to both Tiger Woods and the Golf Channel, and you can tell from the programming that it's mostly geared to that demographic. I'd say middle aged (40s) white men seem to be most popular.
Swing or other types of 50's popular music might be a good place to start.
Also, try out http://www.freeplaymusic.com for some decent instrumental music, well searchable, with reasonable licensing requirements.
Also, most of the infomercial type stuff I see on the Golf Channel for products and such, don't really have anything music wise that stands out. Usually just corporate video muzak. Nothing too creative.
Lorinda Norton July 16th, 2003, 11:55 PM I think it's John Williams who composes orchestral themes for the Olympics. His stuff is great for sports video if you're looking for an "inspirational" effect.
I could dig up "Summon The Heroes" if you're interested. Might be too serious for what you're doing, though.
Dylan Couper July 17th, 2003, 11:07 PM John Williams is a great suggestion.
I figured the target audience would be 40's 50's, however, I just don't know what your average 50 year old golfer listens to. Most of the 50 year olds I know listen to the Stones, Floyd, Dylan, etc, and never played golf.
Chariots of Fire might be just a little too slow, it's got to be a little more peppy, I think.
Alex Knappenberger July 17th, 2003, 11:25 PM www.musicbakery.com is great.
Lorinda Norton July 18th, 2003, 03:00 AM On the lighter side, how about golf *theme* songs:
"Roll With It" -- Steve Winwood
"Bare Trees" -- Fleetwood Mac
"Head Games" -- Foreigner
I have no idea if these songs are any good or not--just saw them on a list and thought the titles were kind of funny in relation to the sport. If #2 doesn't make sense, just picture a frustrated golfer out in the woods trying to whack a ball back into play. And any serious golfer would vouch for Head Games. :-)
Good luck!
