Hi. I just wanted to tell everyone a little bit about myself and get acquanted with all of you. I am a freshman in high school. I've been interested in film making since I was about 10, but the only camera I've ever been able to use was a cheap little VHS camcorder. I've been researching DV cameras for a little while, and I should be able to afford a GL1 by this summer. I've written a couple scripts for shorts and started writing one for a feature. I am very enthusiastic, and I love to learn. I'll be happy to talk to you all later.

Good to hear from you, John. There's a famous quote I like that I always think about when I catch myself hesitating on an upcoming project due to equipment limitations...

"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." - Theodore Roosevelt

So, keep cranking things out until you get that GL1. Good luck!

I agree; "keep crankin' with what you have". The tool matters much less than the vision and effort. If you do get the GL1 you'll have a very powerful tool, indeed. Many of us have GL1's (myself included). It's really a fine camera and you'll find love at first frame. But one advantage of having a "cheap little VHS camcorder" is that it helps keeps your imagination focused on telling a story rather than letting it wander into driving camera goodies.

Let us know about how your projects are going and if we can answer any questions.
