I've noticed that the placement of the door to the firewire connector doesn't allow it to open when the media recorder is attached. I'd like to run a FW cable to a Macbook for use with Scopebox 2 while still recording to the CF card.
Has anyone dared remove the little plastic FW port cover and tried simultaneous output? I'm just borrowing the camera right now so I don't want to make any "permanent" modifications to satisfy my own curiosity.

I understand that that was done on purpose so you could not record to cf and firewire device at the same time. Not sure why you aren't supposed to do this though.

The reason for that is because there is only enough power to support one of those ports, and when the CF reader is attached, it deliberately covers the other. If you attempt to conenct both, you can easily fry your camera.
