I know this is a simple process but cant remember how it is done. Can anyone tell me how to grab a screen shot from Final Cut and convert it into a jpeg pic?

Shift-N creates a freeze frame in the Canvas. You can go to File > Export > QuickTime Conversion and export it as a JPG (or anything else.)

Thank you very much.

You can also do the OS X screen capture (Command+shift+4) and get a screen grab, which will save a PNG so you'd have to open in Preview and save as JPEG (which I actually prefer because Quicktime conversion into still frame sometimes screws up the aspect ratio or shows interlace artifacts).

I've seen that method go awry, though. If any overlays are visible, they get captured right along with the frame. I saw someone's video and all their still frames had the exclamation point or green check mark at the top because they didn't turn off the excess luma overlay.

Well, nothing's idiot-proof.

Well, nothing's idiot-proof.

And once they do make something idiot-proof, they come out with a better idiot!
