Went on an Outward Bound Wilderness rock climbing trip in Joshua Tree National Park in California over spring break and was lucky enough to bring my XHa1, i would have kicked myself if i didn't. it was incredibly beautiful and my fellow campers were happy to have footage of the adventure.

the video basically chronicles the whole trip. i didn't get to film as much as i'd liked to and i was quite rushed when i was because we were doing so much.

As a bit of advice on the shooting - watch that exposure. A few shots seemed to be a bit over exposed. Also, slow down on the pans. I would liked to have seen a few shots from the top looking down at the climbers.

Overall, they should be pleased to see their efforts on the big screen.

i agree with your advice, there are some over exposed shots, and i used a lot of pans... it would have been nice to ascend a line and shoot from the face looking down, or just shoot from the top, but that wasn't really an option.

My compression settings have evolved greatly as i've kept making more and more HD videos.

to get the video that you watched at that quality, i exported a 1280x720HD version at high image quality, 60 fps and everything else on automatic.

this file was pretty big at over 800mb, so i took this 720p file and in Quicktime pro, i exported it as a quicktime movie at the LAN/intranet preset, but at a custom resolution of 640x360 i believe, which is just 1280x720 divided by 2.

it comes out really well. the file is only about 60mb instead of 800 and everything stays in the correct aspect ratio.
