I have two weddings this weekend and I have a questions about using these cameras. My intent was to use the GL2 in 4:3 mode and the HV20 in HD 16:9 mode.

I plan to capture footage in Final Cut Pro in SD. I will scale the HV20 footage so that it will fit into 4:3.

My question (or concern) is: should I even bother with mixing HD & SD - or should I use the SD mode on the HV20? I'm still getting used to FCP, and I don't want to be pulling out my hair during post.

Has anyone here mixed HD & SD? Is so, what are some options?

Okay, this is general, because I don't use FCP. But I have mixed 4:3 and HD, down rezzing the HD to fit. I have a Sony VX2000, and a FX1 and HV20. If you shoot the HV20 stuff in HDV or in DV 16;9, of course real issue is how to present it afterwards, ie., 4:3 with letter box for 16:9 stuff, or 16:9 with pillars on side for 4:3 stuff. It is doable, but to what end and purpose is a decision you have to make.

Based on your premise, and the limited experience with editor, and unless you want to preserve HD potential, for yourself or your client later, I think, for simplicity sake, that I would shoot both cameras in 4:3 and make life easy on yourself. Alternatively, if you do decide to shoot the HV20 in HDV, you can still down rez at capture, though it will be in 16:9.
