Hi all,

I am interested to use the Sennheiser MKH-416 mic with my Z7E. Do the XLR inputs provide Phantom power or I should get an external device for that?

Thanks!!

Sorry - can't figure out how to attach the photo - you can see it on my website under "NEW PHOTOS"

Ofer, where did you find the adapter to attach Nikon glass to the Z7?

Ofer - If you want to use a 416 as an on camera mic, I found my 416 was too long to mount on the front clamp. You could maybe attach it to a mic holder on the rear hotshoe

edit - although looing at the lens you've put on it it shouldn't be a problem...

Hi Winston - got the adapter from Mike Tapa - www.mtfservices.com.

Thanks Mike - I am going to use the mic on a tripod and not mounted on the camera.

Too right the 416 is way too good to be mounted on the camera, it is better used on a pole with the camera mic as a ambience mic.

BTW I have tested the new sony short shotgun mic supplied with the Z7 against the rode NTG1/2 on the camera and the supplied sony mic is way better and more sensitive and less noisy, add a wind jammer/cheater and it is really nice as it is not too long and I now use my NTG 1 on a short pole to get closer to the action.

Thanks for that Gary ! Any idea as to a good wind jammer/cheater for the Sony stock mic ?

As it happens I just got one delivered this morning from this guy:www.TheWindCutter.com

Good value and very well made.

I got mine off e-bay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WindCutter-Fur-Mic-WINDSCREEN-for-SONY-HDV-HVR-V1P_W0QQitemZ120252196101QQihZ002QQcategoryZ107938QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The V1 mic is the same size as the Z7

That's really good to hear that the Sony stock mike is improved. The old mikes on the PD-150 through the V1 were essentially omnidirectional, or maybe a bit caridoid. Does the new mike have a narrower pick-up pattern? How do you think it would work if you detached it from the camera and put it on a boom?

Yes it is a lot better and has a nice tight sound but with a little bit more gain and less boominess than the rode ntg1. `It is certainly hyper cardioid and the back rejection is very good if you talk into the side of the mic it is virtually off.

I havent tried it on a boom yet but it may work well as it is quite directional and very small and light.

Ofer, I send to a return e-mail and by the way your pictures are superb!

I bought a nikon adaptor today and that big lens looks scary on the Z7 is it the 300 or 400mm? and what is the camera shake like?
