Hi folks,
Just trying to nail this down ASAP.
I want to pair either the Vinten Vision 3 or the Gitzo 1380 with the
new Gitzo GT3531LSV. I understand this new tripod now comes with the required Gitzo G1422 75mm bowl adaptor.
I'm choosing these new legs because I love my old Gitzo (smaller) legs and need something that can take a decent head and pack smaller than traditional tripod legs.
Anyone want to take a shot at this.
Thanks!

Jonathan I have the 1380 and think it is a excellent head. I have been using it for 18 months and it has never failed me.

Thanks for the vote Paul :)
Why did you choose to go with this head?

I went with the vision 3 when i bought my EX1 and I was really surprised with the performance. I feel quite confident with it even in harsh weather. Simple and easy to use, and a good match for the EX1 ;)

Cool Nils.
Did you pick up the Vinten legs as well as the head?

Jonathan,
If you want another option, I can't recommend Miller solo's enough http://www.warehouseexpress.com/product/default.aspx?sku=1011980
It's the perfect match for an EX-1 and can be carried easily.

Hey thanks Dan.
I've been looking at the DS20 and have heard many great things about it.
The new Gitzo 3531 LSV achieves a minimum height of 4.3" compared to the Solo's 14.5" which i really dig. Plus I'm not really into neoprene.
Sure the Solo can reach 10" higher (69.2") but I never really work at that height.
Can anyone who has used the Ds20 head compare it to the Gitzo 1380 head or Vinten Vision 3 Head? This would be most helpful :)

Just a word of warning about using Vinten Vision "X" heads with non - Vinten legs.
The entire range of Vinten V "X" heads use a short, stocky head clamp, with a large clamp bowl and three fairly substantial lobes on the handle to boot.
This can (and indeed will) give all sorts of grief with non Vinten legs/ receiver designs, leading to:
- Miniscule, if any, head angle adjustment range.
- Clamp handle thread not engageing/ only partially engageing with head bolt.
- Legs not being able to fully shut due to the leg hinge plates hitting the handle lobes.
I do not have an exhaustive list of the sticks affected, but Manfrotto and Sachtler are way up there.
Don't go for a Vinten with non Vinten sticks till this has been eliminated as a problem - it could be an expensive mistake.

Hi Chris,
I was wondering when you were going to show up and save the day.
Big thanks for your insight here. It's exactly what I was waiting for on the Vinten/ Gitzo combo.
Ok so that narrows it down to the Gitzo 1380 head. Still I wonder about the Miller DS20......
I was told today that the best dealer here in Canada will not take shipment on the new Gitzo 3531LSV Legs or the 1380 head until 3 week of June so it looks like I'll be ringing B&H in the next day or so.
Big thanks to all who have chimed in here.....
