As this is my first post I thought I would introduce myself. I am a professional musician and have been making a living playing music for the last 10 years. I was originally going to school for broadcasting but switched to a music major halfway through. I have also done a fair amount of work as a sound man and recording engineer. Over the last year I have started working for a video production company and have been getting really into location recording and post production. I have bought and read every book I could find on the subject and have been lurking on this and other forums for a while. I have bought a fairly nice kit for location recording. I have done location sound and post on a few commercials and promo videos and am now working on a TV/Radio show. It’s looking likely that I will be doing sound on a children’s TV show. I’m also slowly building a 1200’ post production studio in my basement. I have a ton of questions and am very grateful that there are people out there willing to help us newbies learn the business.

Unfortunately I don't have the SD recorder just the mixer. I want the recorder but alas I ran out of money (or available credit lol). For now I am running straight to camera. I am really glad I got the 442. I originally bought the 302 but sent it back and bought the 442. It was expensive but I doubt I will ever need to buy another mixer.

Exactly my thoughts when I bought mine. Better to buy what you'll eventually move up to right at the start - I've always found it to be the most economical in the long run. Welcome to DV Info

Sorry, I misread the numbers.

I agree completely with you and Steve, it is best to get a great Sound Devices mixer first, then get the recorder.

For your use, the 442 mixer is more important at this time.

Now you have the option of getting a 744t or even a 788t someday.

You have a very Dutch/Belgian sounding name, did you know that?

Yeah and Scandinavian but actually the spelling is English. I'm half English and my father claims to have gotten it off a Fair Port Convention album. It's an old English word and I have seen it used in Shakespeare.

Every time I buy crappy gear it breaks and I end up having to re-buy it. So I really try to buy good stuff from the start. It's hard not to be tempted by all the cheap gear coming from china (Behringer and such) Some of it looks good but it rarely holds up to road wear. I do tend to try to save a bit of money by making my own cables. I bought 1000' of Canare Star Quad for mic cables and also made my mixer to camera break out cables.

It's a great album.

Yeah luckily! It would suck to be named after a bad album. Fortunately I think it was their best album.
