Using that it has a firewire in/out, can you record the stream out of the camera into that onto tape as a tape backup? Granted you may lose some of the edge the ex has to the HDV compression, but you would have a tape backup for easy viewing and storage and to send out for reviews or samples

The iLink connector is live only when shooting in SP (HDV) mode and you can send that to a laptop (eg. running OnLocation) or other recording device.

In SP mode I have successfully recorded to my Sony DV-HD700 clamshell HDV deck. You can simul-record or record on one or the other.
