View Full Version : Test footage, Swan (on a) Lake
Jo Potts April 21st, 2008, 07:29 AM Hey all,
First post & vid: http://vimeo.com/923549
Just getting used to the camera...been using an XL2 for around 18months, so am familiar with Canon's. Wanted to check out how hard it was using the extra features to help you make HD look good! Turns out it was easier than i thought...
Video-wise, please excuse the dodgy tripod work on the last shot. Partly me, partly a 501 head. Ho hum!
Any advise/comments/criticism welcome!
Jim Miller April 21st, 2008, 07:49 AM you need to set the clip to Public
Jo Potts April 21st, 2008, 09:20 AM thought i had...clip now public. Obviously i didn't click save!
Jim Miller April 21st, 2008, 11:40 AM Very nice! Loved the edit and music. I use the 503 head and just can't get smooth pans from it. My new gitzo comes today.
Tom Sherwood April 22nd, 2008, 06:02 AM Nicely done. Great looking shots.
Will Mahoney April 22nd, 2008, 07:34 AM Nice-looking shots.
Your comment on Vimeo says that you added a vignette in post. What is that? The darker areas around the sides of the image? Like a soft mask?
Jo Potts April 22nd, 2008, 08:15 AM Yeah, the vignette makes the corners a bit darker and more blurred basically and draws you attention more to the centre of the composition. I thought it worked well for the piece.
Will Mahoney April 23rd, 2008, 08:39 AM Then I agree. I thought that the vignette looked great. Keep up the good work.
Chris Coulson April 23rd, 2008, 08:53 AM lovely, except for the blood-sucking monster waving around between it's eyes at 0:35! :-)
Oren Arieli April 23rd, 2008, 09:37 AM Is it just my observation or do swans always seem to have a bad temper? They're easy on the eyes and all, but whenever I ask them for a retake, they get all hissy!
Will Mahoney April 23rd, 2008, 12:10 PM lovely, except for the blood-sucking monster waving around between it's eyes at 0:35! :-)
Oh, man!! I forgot to comment on that! What the F was that thing?

Yeah, i know...that kinda sucked (excuse the pun!)...it was a great shot other than that. As I was only testing out the camera i wasn't really bothered.
