so i got hit with the blue screen of death this morning while I was capturing. After 50 minutes of tape importing fine, the video went away and it only recorded blue screen and jumpy timecode. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a way to fix it without dealing with Sony customer service?

If a camera reset doesn't work I think you will need to send to Sony. I've never had a camera "crash." Hope the reset works for you.

probably stating the obvious here, but did you try running a cleaning tape through the mechanism 2 or 3 times to make sure it wasn't a piece of crud welded to a head?

Worth trying another tape too, just in case it was crud that actually stopped that tape recording correctly when shot.

Finally, I think any competent VCR technician (any of those left?) could give the heads a decent "pro" clean without it going to Sony.

Just a thought.

Jeff,

Stupid question, but are you sure that you had real pictures on the last 10 min of your videotape? (You write 50 min ok, out of a 60 min-tape)

Can you try a other tape, just to make sure it is really the camera?

yeah, sorry guys. I did run a cleaning tape through it a couple times, I tried running another tape (it ran for 20 minutes clean of a 50 minute recording, and then went to blue), and the original tape had 60 minutes of video, but only played back 50. I think I'm just going to make a call to sony and see what I can do. Hopefully the warranty is still valid
