I have a glidecam 2000 and its a bear with my V1, so I just built a fig rig out of pvc pipe off plans I found on a forum, early tests show it will work fine, I modified the camera mount and will put my contoller on it. with the glidecam I needed a harness.

Hugh,

We just returned from NAB and tried out all the competitions rigs. Some are very good and some not.

The Fig Rig is nice for some things but it's not a true stabilizer. Still, it's much better than just handheld.

Your Glidecam 2000 has a 3-axis gimbal and will out perform a non-gimbal system every time for smoothness. It is, as you said, harder to handhold but the two support systems that are built to hold it up (Glidecam's Smooth Shooter arm and the Indicam arm) are well worth the price if you are planning on some serious steadicam shooting.

FYI, I suggested the makers of the Fig Rig put some kind of stop at the top of each of the two grips so the operator wouldn't have to "hold on" so tight. Hard to explain but easy to show.

Hope you enjoy your new creation.

Terry,

Did you have a booth at NAB? I just got home from there myself and one of the main things I did was go and try all the stabilizers out. I was hoping to see yours. :(

Chris,

We didn't have a booth but walked the floors (must be like 5 miles) everyday. We saw some cool things and some nice equipment. We like to keep up on the general stabilizer industry as we should.

Can't comment on the rigs we didn't like but we can on the rigs we did like but that would have to be another thread as this one is about the Fig Rig.

Thanks Terry,

We can chat elsewhere. I don't want to totally derail this thread.
