Good lord those locations were wonderful. Where was that shot? Was the tunnel stuff done with available light only? I loved it all the way around. I think my favorite shot was the spiral staircase. Man I loved that, I'm gonna go watch again.
What camera, which adaptor, what lenses?

**EDIT**
I just watched again and I'm in awe. My second favorite shot is the one where they are hugging and she looks up into the camera. I really need to learn to direct people. That was some of the best stuff I've seen in a while. Loved it.

Hey Ian, Amazing as usual..

Question.. for the fisheye shots, was that done with a real fisheye lens attached to your adapter? or straight to the camera?

Ian, what source file do you use to upload to vimeo? Does it take forever. Buffering your clip now.

MONO rocks! Ian you ROCK!

Stunning imagery as always!

I'm surprised with the performance of the HV20 indoors, it held up beautifully. Or have you changed your rig?

REALLY like that...DOF at its best! very cinematic, and so well composed and coloured. reminded me of some beautiful shots in Lost in Translation and Babel...

so what setup do you have? that's the question on everyone's lips :)

and if you don't mind, what song is that?

great work, and annoyingly pushing me towards the Letus even more, damn you...i'm hoping my house sale DOESN'T go through, then i'll have money again to get all the technology i currently want!!

Thanks guys!

Ethan, that was shot at various locations in Singapore. All shots were done with available light only. It was my fiancee that directs everything :)

Yang Wen, that was using Raynox semi fisheye adapter, directly to camcorder

Jason, file format is MP4. It takes forever to upload haha...

Beautiful shots and editing. I couldn't help but notice you did several wardrobe changes with the couple as well. How long did you shoot for that day?

Also, the shots all had a very film-like look. Would you say you got that look in the camera or in post, or a combination of the two?

Travis, that was a combination of the two. Actually it took 2 days for shooting, each days took about 5-6 hours. We have to travel for various locations and it was raining cats and dogs:)

Well, that makes me feel a little better. It's still impressive, but I wasn't sure how you could all of those shots WITH wardrobe changes in the same day. Thanks for the info!

It inspires me to become better.
Are all the clips on Vimeo shot with the HV20?
What about post production, what's your work flow?

I notice when you use fish-eye lens, there are two line on each side of the screen, why is that?

Simon, pls p'mail me :)

Siu Chung Leung, I have to admit..actually there was something wrong with the 2nd HV20 (the one that I shot with fisheye adapter). The broken unit is being repaired :(

Ian,

Absolutly fantastic work, it looks like a 35mm commercial shoot for Burberry or Fendi or something.

Outstanding :)

Color is perfect and vivid (great encode too;)

The song is a nice selection and works perfect. I must admit, it drove me crazy for 6 hours trying to think of the song. I thought it was something out of Romeo and Juliet soundtrack but I finally found it...

two thumbs up ;)

W.O.W!

Amazing trailer. Very artistic.

Great directing of talents(clients). Like everyone else, totally love the DOF. Colors are vivid yet very subtle. Not jumping out of the screen. I think the excellent choice of costumes and locations also helped achieving this.

Love the last shot of bride running through the tunnel.

Didn't totally like the font used at the end. A more edgy clean-cut font would have been better for such an unconventional piece like this. That's just my opinion.

Keep up the good work Ian.

Dror, the song's 'Life in Mono' by Mono.

Man thats some very commercial quality piece. Great to see clips like that produced on a HV20 and 35mm adaptor. Could you pm me the workflow as well and what settings you use on the hv20 to shoot.

Pardon the vignettes, wrong-aligned adapter barrel, dust spec etc etc :) :)

That was simply amazing. The wide angle shots are making me want to get a .3 but I already spent my gear budget for Q2 (but I have a big gig this month that would work perfectly with a fish eye)!

Fabulous pacing, and colorizing (if done in post, very good..... if in camera & lighting.... then fantastic!). Music matched perfectly with the shots.

Did you story board the shoot before hand, or take a spontaneous approach? Scout locations and make a location list, or wander around finding good shots as they happened?

Ian Lim

Peter, pm me please :D :D

Jason, thanks! That was a Raynox cheap semi fish eye adapter.

It was both, storyboard the shoot and spontaneous. It was also both, make a location list and wander around finding good shots:D

Well that covers the bases then! Thanks for the info.

Regarding the Raynox, have you liked the visual quality of those? I hear rumblings on other boards that only the Century Optics are any good, but I don't know that my shooting & cinematography is superior enough for the small differences to matter. Also, is that lens a zoom through so you can tailor the barrel distortion to taste?
