Hello,

I've recorded a video using the 24p mode, with NO gain, 1/24 shutter. I've captured using the ProRes easy setup in the FCP 6.0.2.
My first impression, is that the image has a lot of grain, and i don't know why.
Second, the video came with 30fps (29,98) and no with 24p, as it would be.
Does anyone know what i'm doing wrong?

What were you shooting, and how did you light it?

More light = less noise.

i was shotting in low light indoor, outdoor with daylight and by the night too, but with some lights.
The point is that there's a lots of noise in the low light and a relative noise in the more lighted and daylight shoots.
In low light, the shadows wouldn't have to be more black, or the camera creates this noise in low light?

If the camera is new to you, is it possible that you made a mistake in operation and recorded with gain? Seems like this is the only (?) possibility to explain noise in the dark areas, unless the cam itself has a problem.

Not only do you need to be shooting manually, the gain display has to be visible in the viewfinder/lcd and reading "0" to actually have no gain applied.

24p on the V1 is embedded and recorded in a 1080i 29.97 stream (pulldown added). This is what your NLE will see the video as. Perhaps this is fine for your use, or, you may pull out the extra frames. Sorry, I've not been using FCP with my V1, but a forum search or google search will turn up the workflow for removing pulldown.

I'm sure that i didnt shoot with gain. I'll try to put some videos in the internet to compare.
Ps: I have exported to a DVD and playned in a normal tv, and the noise seemed to be lower, but, instead of it, theres a little bit of some "blur".

I have a V1 and am totally unsatisfied with my 24p shooting. try this, shoot 1080i, get yourself Cineform NEO HDV capture as cineform avi deinterlaced, convert in your NLE, I use Vegas, as 29.97 or 24.97 progressive. edit as progressive, and render as mpeg4 at least 3 mbps, up to 6 mbps. I have used cbr and vbr with good results. my clips are coming out very good using this. Even when I render as mpeg2 for dvda and make a dvd the results are very good, never with a clip shot in 24p in the camera.

also, try 30P. it's a great hybrid look.

Compression artifacts? My english is not good, but, what does that mean?
Are you talking about the compression i did for Vimeo or any other compression (maybe in the capture).
The compression is h.264 for web in Vimeo.

I've shot in 24p, i tried to capture using the FCP 6.0.2 and Apple ProRes 422 108024p but it didn't work, so the project is in 29,97fps and has some equal frames every 4 frames.
