View Full Version : Tunnel Vision - Short
John Lofton IV March 27th, 2008, 09:45 AM Hey Everyone,
Here's a short I created using some new footage I captured last week.
It's purely experimental, and was created as a means to showcase my footage in an interesting fashion.
**Audio warning** This is meant to be suspenseful. Turn your speakers up, but be prepared for it to get loud.

Marcel D. Van Someren March 27th, 2008, 10:12 AM Very well done!
Music choice was perfect, in my opinion. Nice, subtile use of visual fx as well.
Pete Bauer March 27th, 2008, 10:39 AM John, moved this to "Show Your Work" as I think you'll get a lot more views.
I don't use FCP, but because of some "comb-tooth" artifacting consistent with interlaced video, I'm curious about your post process. Canon 24F is captured as completely progressive 23.976 frames, so there shouldn't be any comb-tooth. Wondering how that might have been introduced into the render?
John Lofton IV March 27th, 2008, 12:23 PM Thanks, guys!
Pete, I used a DV NTSC / 29.97 timeline to edit this video. That's probably why there are 'comb-tooth' artifacts.
Good catch, I think I can just change the framerate back to 23.976 in FCP and re-render it. The reason I started in 29.97 was because I wanted to watch it on a friends projector (via a standard DVD player).
In the post-process I took the full-frame 1920x1080 footage and literally cropped a 720x480 rectangle out of the middle (to remove most of the vignetting caused by the Indy Ultra Macro rig).
Oh, and thanks for moving this for me!
I'll update the vimeo link once I get everything re-rendered in 23.976!
John Lofton IV March 27th, 2008, 05:50 PM Hey Paul (and everyone else),
I just finished uploading the true-24f version to VIMEO.
I also changed the movie a little bit.

Well, what do you guys think?
Marcel D. Van Someren March 27th, 2008, 06:07 PM You need to unprotect the video so we can view it.
Robert Hruska March 27th, 2008, 07:01 PM I hated it.
Actually, I always just wanted to say that on one of these "review my work" things, because nobody ever says that, even though undoubtedly, for some of these things, they must have thought it. :)
I didn't hate it, hehe. I did want to say that I really like the way you did the opening titles. You could just take the "Lofton Films" one and use it as an opening credit animation. Really, I think it works very well.
Now let me watch the rest of this. :)
John Lofton IV March 27th, 2008, 11:22 PM Haha, thanks Robert! I think I might just do that :)
Video is unprotected now, go check it out!
Oliver Pahlow April 3rd, 2008, 11:47 AM John,
That was very cool. I like the way the music interacts with the images. It left me in suspence as to what was really going to happen with the eye.
Oliver
John Lofton IV April 7th, 2008, 10:25 AM Thanks, Oliver. I'm glad you liked it.
