Hi, I have been looking around for a 444 codec that I can use first off with my fcp 2 suite and secondly, across multiple platforms. I hit on the Cineform 444 codec, but seems as if this may only work with intel macs?

If so can anyone recommend a 444 codec for lossless color space to be integrated into a FINAL CUT - COLOR - FINAL CUT workflow? Want to find best option for picture quality and compositing possibilities using a variety of HD/HDV formats.

Thanks in advance!

There are none today due to limitation in Color. Color doesn't support any compressed 444 codec, even on the Intel Mac. You can use ProRES if you stay on the Mac, but that is only 422.

Thanks for the reply.

If I were to circumvent COLOR in favor of another color correction solution, are there any 444 codecs for PPC Macs/FCP, at least for initial capture?

Thanks,

-Tom

Only BitJazz Sheer might fit your needs, the file size is much bigger than CineForm, but it is PPC compatible.

I would look into IRIDAS SpeedGrade HD if you're looking for alternatives to Color . . . it is more expensive though.

Also you could look into Synthetic-Aperture's stand-alone version of Color Finesse. It's not quite as feature-rich as SpeedGrade HD, but it's also not as expensive.

Thanks,
