Hey, I jsut bought a shotgun mic that has the ability to take phantom power and a mixer with the ability to give it. The only problem is that the mixer is small and can only give the power to all of its channels. I am wondering if it is ok to plug a microphone that dosnt need phantom power into this mixer when I have the mixer giving the phantom power to the shotgun mic. Thanks

Using your mixer with phantom power on mics that don't need it is no problem. They simply ignore the fact that it's there. Not to worry.

I'm not sure that is always the case. I've used phantom powered mics since I started in the video business, so it's not a problem for me. But I have heard of mics being damaged by sending them 48v. I would check with the manufacture of your specific brand, just to be safe.

Jeff's right. It's not a problem with dynamics and condensors... but a big problem with ribbons.

The ribbon turns into a fuse - that fries rather quickly.

You could solder a blocking capacitor into a barrel adapter or an XLR end.
