With HD is there a greater tendency in shadowy and black areas for wiggling graininess?

It seems to me to be more prevalent on my Z7 than my DV cam.

I notice on my 52" 1080P LCD [via FiOS TV] that there is some wiggling graininess in dark and black areas, when you get up way closer than for regular viewing, on most or all TV shows, although less so or none on at least some movies.

I'm thinking graininess that can't be seen from a regular viewing distance is OK and that there are many techniques that can be used, shot by shot, to keep it down to an acceptable level.

Am I on the right track?

I don't worry about it at all when I'm shooting. When I'm editing I just zap it with the excellent noise reduction plugin from neatvideo.com. This plugin is like magic. It keeps the sharpness and kills just the noise. It's pretty inexpensive too.

S/N ratio on HDV camcorders may be lower than SD camcorders, thus more noise and grain. These giant lcd tv's also exacerbate the problem by showing every flaw in detail.
