Devin Termini February 27th, 2008, 01:56 PM Hi everyone,
Does anyone know if these cards can be used with the EX1?

It looked like it might work. I haven't tried it. Thanks everyone.
Craig Seeman February 27th, 2008, 02:24 PM Nothing outside of Sony and Sandisk will work unless and until there's a firmware update to the camera. At various times people from Sony said that will happen but such cards will still have to be "certified" by Sony.
George Kroonder February 27th, 2008, 02:36 PM No, I don't believe so. For the moment only Sony and Sandisk branded SxS cards can be used.
The problem with the Lexar is that (if I recall correctly) the write speed was really slow. So even though it implements the ExcpreeCard PCIe interface, it isn't up to par for use in the EX1.

Phil Bloom February 27th, 2008, 03:38 PM i didnt know you could use sandisk cards? which ones? any links?
George Kroonder February 27th, 2008, 04:21 PM The product number is SDX-VS-016G-E101 for the 16GB and -008G-E101 for the 8GB. They are the same as the Sony's, including the price, apart from the branding (it's a red Sandisk sticker).
Availablility is limited and I've only seen them stocked in Germany and Austria.

John M Burkhart February 27th, 2008, 04:57 PM Bit of useless trivia: SxS stands for "Sony by SanDisk", or "SanDisk by Sony" depending on which company you're talking to.

Found that out the hard way. I was talking shop in the control room at Google where I work as a Robo Cam operator and was talking about the "SxS" cards and was saying "s" "x" "s" instead of "s" "by" "s" and was quickly corrected!
Always humbling to be corrected about your own gear!
Valeriu Campan February 27th, 2008, 05:32 PM As an alternative or addition to flash memory, and taking into account all the perils of using HDD, would such adapter allow direct to disk recording?

Chris Medico February 29th, 2008, 08:29 AM Yes but only in 25mb mode. If that is your intent I would rather get the Sony hard drive recorder.
Alfredo Silva February 29th, 2008, 12:19 PM And when can that firmware come??
Anyone know something??
Phil Bloom February 29th, 2008, 12:23 PM there will be firmware within a week or so but unknown if it will support 3rd party cards. doubt it
