I am trying to monitor the Ex1 using the hd-sdi output through Blackmagic HDlink to convert to DVI and then to an Eizo CG241W. I am just getting loads of horizontal lines across the screen. each line is maybe 1 or 2 pixels high and the lines are separated by about 30 pixels of black. they don't seem to be related to the picture content at all.

I have tried the screen and DVI cable on a Mac and both the DVI ports appear to be working fine. I have tried connecting the HDlink up to a plasma using the DVI to HDMI adapter supplied, that works fine too. I have tried changing frame rates and resolution on the EX1 but still no picture on the Eizo.

Anyone got any bright ideas? I feel sure I am missing something obvious.

Perhaps your SDI is not enabled in the camera menu?

Nope, SDI is enabled. It worked fine with the Plasma when the DVI is input through the HDMI connector, just not with the Eizo. I have read posts from others who are using the Eizo CG241W with HDlink, so I presume it should work.

Download the HDLINK utility form BM web site.
It hooks up via USB.

Find the preferences under the drop down menu. There are a lot of options to
to select to allow monitor compatibility.

I had a problem with a monitor 5 years after I bought it and ran it by eizo. They had me send it to them. They fixed it for free! Great outfit. Of course, I live in Japan but the point is that it's a great company. Talk to them!

Depending on the mode your're shooting at, the HD-link will do a pull-up or a pull-down. This should be automatic, but in some cas you have to do it by hand.

As Steven said, download the utility and try different pulldown ratio.

Thanks for all the input. It was hidden in the preferences in the utility. I had to force a manual override of EDID. "Force 3:1 Progressive Display" turned out to be the correct setting. Now it is working fine.
