Okay, this is sort of a strange question. I have never used iMovie. I gave some footage I shot (XDCAM EX that I downconverted to DV) to a client who was going to edit themselves. They had iMovie and they cut something. Then they got Final Cut Express and recut the project. I am with the client now and for some reason the playback quality looks markedly better playing back from iMovie rather than FCE. I find this strange that they are not identical. In fact we took the Quicktime movie that they exported from FCE and dropped it into iMovie. Full screen playback on iMovie shows way fewer artifacts than Digital Cinema Preview on FCE. My client now thinks that iMovie is better, and they are looking for the best way to display there laptop hooked up to a projector for a presentation.
Anybody notice this before? Is there a setting in FCE that changes Digital Cinema Preview quality?
