Hi,

I am having this problem the subtitle not able to be seen over certain 'white scenes'.

My only solution now is to drop shadow over it.
But i've seen other subtitles which are much clearer than mine, and I'm wondering what's the function or how they work around those white areas.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Try outlining it. I did it with some text in a similar situation. I used a light grey outline 1 pixel wide. It was subtle enough that it didn't stand out but it made the text readable during light shots.

Yes, outline or shadow. In extreme cases, try a solid black stripe behind the text and pull its opacity down to between 30 and 50 %.

I may be the only person who prefers yellow subtitles.

here in oz, we have a TV station which plays world movies and they ONLY use yellow subtitles....

much easier on teh eyes to focus on too i might add...

On cable channels here, they tend to show the movies in letterbox and put the subtitles in the black bottom bar of the letterbox.

Isn't there a law that says "Even yellow subtitles will find backgrounds against which they are totally unreadable"?

Give me white, I generally dislike yellow subtitles. But that might
be due to here in The Netherlands EVERYTHING is subtitled and
they almost ALWAYS use white.

They had this problem in the last Austin Powers movie. :)
