I can capture fine, but I can't see the canvas on the monitor when editing. I have a firewire going into an HDV Sony HDR-FX1. And Component out to an HD TV.
In FCP audio/video settings the: "HDV 1440x1080 30" is dimmed out!
So I can't select the output. the settings seem right in the camera, but After Effects doesn't output either.
Again, it outputs on the monitor when capturing but not editing.

I have FCP 5.0.4 and a powerbook.
thanks

You can't preview HDV over firewire with FCP 5. I think you can preview HDV material over firewire in SD using FCP 6, but to preview HDV you'll need something like a Blackmagic Intensity card or similar

EDIT: just noticed you said you have a powerbook.... so I don't know what you can use with a powerbook to preview in HDV
